CONCORD, N.C. (September 14, 2006) – The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. (WAM) is pleased to announce its inaugural Homerun Derby Charity event.  The event, scheduled for Wednesday, October 11, 2006, will be held at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, home of the Kannapolis Intimidators, in Kannapolis, N.C.

Fans will be given the opportunity for an evening of fun, prizes, games, and to watch some of racing’s most notable personalities compete for the crown of homerun champion.  Those scheduled to participate include Kenny Wallace, Tony Raines, David Stremme, David Reutimann, Kerry Earnhardt, Hermie Sadler, defending Craftsman Truck Series Champion Ted Musgrave, Speed Channel’s John Roberts, Steve Byrnes, Rick Allen, Bob Dillner and nascar.com’s Marty Smith.  In addition, NASCAR on FOX’s Mike Joy will be on hand to emcee with Speed’s Wendy Venturini and Ray Dunlap handling field reporting. Additional participants will be announced at a later date.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with the homerun derby scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.  There will be exclusive     on-field access for a pre-event autograph party to the first 500 fans to register after entering the park.  In addition to the autographs, fans will have an opportunity to register for prizes and chances to compete with drivers in various activities between rounds.

The derby will consist of three rounds pitting the participants against each other with  round winners advancing to additional rounds until we reach the final two competing for homerun champion.  The field will be sectioned off and players will accumulate points based on where their ball falls in the sections.  The four players with the most accumulated points will advance to round two and then the two players with the most points after round two will advance to the final.

A $10.00 admission fee will be charged with proceeds going toward WAM and its charitable efforts including its commitment to construct the playroom at the new Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord, N.C.  Children five years and younger will be admitted for free.  Tickets can be purchased through the stadium by calling 704-932-3267 or through the WAM office by calling 704-788-9299.

“We are extremely excited about this event and want to provide a unique opportunity for families visiting during race week as well as those fans in our own backyard,” stated Gaye Joy, WAM President.  “We were looking for an avenue to raise money for a really great cause as well as reach out to the many fans who have been our supporters over the years.”

“We have been fortunate to be able to work with some great sponsors like Wachovia Bank, Heintz Performance, Stock Car Steel and Quaker Steak and Lube who have made this event become a reality,” added WAM’s Industry Relations Manager, Brian Bell.  “We are hoping to be able to announce some additional partners in the next week or so.”

The Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc.
