NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Driver Kasey Kahne and Evernham Motorsports team owner, Ray Evernham, will sign Pit Road Pets books at Kasey Kahne's trackside merchandise trailer from approximately 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. (time may change depending on track schedule) on Saturday, August 19th at the Michigan International Speedway. Details to be posted in the future on www.pitroadpets.com.
In February 2006, the Ryan Newman Foundation announced the nationwide release of a charity book it published entitled Pit Road Pets™: NASCAR Stars and Their Pets. The hardcover, 164-page book features first-person stories and intimate photographs of nearly 50 NASCAR celebrities and their pets.
Ryan and Krissie Newman believe that making a difference in the world should start at home. The Ryan Newman Foundation will donate 100% of its proceeds from the book to humane efforts, including the Humane Society of Catawba County’s (Hickory, N.C.) new no-kill animal shelter and regional low-cost spay/neuter clinic serving eight counties in the heart of North Carolina’s NASCAR country. That spay/neuter clinic is part of the Humane Alliance's National Spay/Neuter Response Team outreach program, for which the Newmans were recently named national spokespeople.
Pit Road Pets: NASCAR Stars and Their Pets retails for $24.95 and is available from PetSmart stores and most major booksellers nationwide, including Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Walden Books, Borders Books & Music. The book can also be purchased from any Motorsports Authentics merchandise trailer at NASCAR race events or online at www.pitroadpets.com.
“As the Ryan Newman Foundation’s first major project, this book was conceived as a way to help homeless animals across the country,” said Krissie Newman, co-founder of the Ryan Newman Foundation. “It is our hope that NASCAR fans and animal lovers alike will enjoy the book and help spread its message of responsible pet ownership.”
Pit Road Pets: NASCAR Stars and Their Pets was a collaborative effort spearheaded by Krissie Newman and Rosalie De Fini, executive director of the Ryan Newman Foundation. Writer Laura Lacy and photographer Karen Will Rogers, both of Nashville, Tenn., co-authored an earlier book, Music Row Dogs and Nashville Cats: Country Stars and Their Pets (Simon & Schuster 2004), which served as the inspiration for Pit Road Pets.
Pit Road Pets is part of the NASCAR Library Collection. The Ryan Newman Foundation is proud to be supported by The NASCAR Foundation.
