VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL AA BOYS' BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPS SUPPORT NASCAR DAY
Martinsville Bulldogs Lend a Helping Hand at Speedway

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 3, 2006) – With victory still fresh in their minds, the Virginia High School League AA Boys’ Basketball State Champions, the Martinsville Bulldogs, showed up at the Martinsville Speedway this past weekend to help make NASCAR Day a success.  The team was taking donations and handing out NASCAR Day pins to race fans at this weekend’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Saturday at Martinsville Speedway.

The Bulldogs, led by Coach Troy Wells, clinched their 13th state title during this year’s March Madness.  Now, the hometown heroes are lending their time and celebrity status to helping out The NASCAR Foundation and their community.

“NASCAR Day is a great program, and the team had a great time talking to fans, selling pins, and just enjoying being at the race,” said Martinsville Coach Troy Wells.  “This is our community and our hometown, so we like to get involved and help out in any way we can.”

At the track, the team managed to raise an astounding $1,300 for NASCAR Day in just two hours.

NASCAR Day, in its third year, is an annual celebration of the NASCAR spirit. Each year the program grows as more companies and NASCAR fans become involved. Last year, more than 240,000 pins were sold, and more than 2,500 companies participated in NASCAR Day.

For a $5 donation, participants receive an official commemorative NASCAR Day lapel pin and are encouraged to wear them on May 19 to show their NASCAR pride and celebrate NASCAR Day. The proceeds benefit The NASCAR Foundation which supports more than 25 motorsports industry and driver charities including the Victory Junction Gang Camp and Speediatrics.  To find out how to participate in NASCAR Day, visit www.nascar.com/nascarday for more information.
