THE NASCAR FOUNDATION AND RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY PARTNER TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LOCAL CHARITY
NASCAR Day Pins at RIR Will Help Support Junior Achievement of Central Virginia
CHARLOTTE, NC (April 30, 2009) – The NASCAR Foundation has partnered with Richmond International Raceway (RIR) to raise funds for NASCAR Day this weekend.
RIR will serve as a prime location for fans wishing to make a $5 donation for their NASCAR Day pin. There will be booths throughout the midway this weekend, May 1-2, where volunteers from Junior Achievement of Central Virginia will be collecting donations for the pins. Half of the proceeds generated from donations at America’s Premier Short Track will be donated to Junior Achievement of Central Virginia, with the other half benefiting The NASCAR Foundation. Additionally donations will be accepted at the ticket office, located at 600 E. Laburnum Avenue, now through the entire NASCAR season.
NASCAR Day is an annual celebration of the NASCAR spirit and the sixth-annual observance will be held this year on Friday, May 15th. NASCAR fans, corporations, schools and organizations across the country are encouraged to donate $5 and all participants will receive a collectible 2009 NASCAR Day lapel pin for their donation. For those who are unable to attend the festivities at Richmond International Raceway this weekend, donations are also accepted online at WWW.NASCAR.COM/NASCARDay.
“Richmond International Raceway is glad to once again accept donations for NASCAR Day,” track president Doug Fritz said. “We are extremely happy to know that fifty percent of the donations at Richmond International Raceway will benefit Junior Achievement of Central Virginia while the other half will go to The NASCAR Foundation. I know I’ll be wearing my NASCAR Day pin on May 15, and I hope our fans will do the same.”
Junior Achievement of Central Virginia brings role models from the business community into the classroom to help each child understand and believe in their potential to succeed. Last year, 19,000 students from 133 schools throughout greater Richmond experienced JA due to the involvement of more than 800 community volunteers. This non-profit volunteer organization creates business/education partnerships to encourage young people to stay in school, appreciate lifelong learning, develop positive attitudes toward work, and contribute to a diverse society.
